Thanks to NRAS for a really interesting article on foot surgery. It's is extremely helpful to see the range of deformity that surgery can address. My own feet have large bunions and over-pronation, for which I have orthotics and always wear sensible shoes, but very little pain now that the inflammation is under control. I've often wondered how bad feet have to get before surgery is a serious option, and this article certainly helps to put it all into context.

I don't think I'll be rushing down the surgery route, but at least I'm starting to understand what could be in the future, with a bit less dread.

Cheers - Sylvia xx

ps can we have a similar article on hands, please?
Be kinder than is necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

BigGrin Hi Sylvia,

I agree with the info on foot surgery - before and after pictures. I found it informatIve, interesting and understandable for us ra people without any in depth jargon.

I tweeted last week asking for "scar photos" with knees because I'd be interested in advance before my dressings are removed.

Hands/fingers be a good subject also other before and after joint surgery.
Whilst the photos of examples of deformed joints isn't everyone's cup of tea - some may find of interest if/when they experience joint damage. Also there are always lovely new members joining NRAS for info/guidence.

Maybe we could all become models with our joint damage - turn a negatice into a positice!

Hi Jane,
Hope you are keeping up with physio. Do you have a long strip of plaster from
2-3 inches above front of knee to 3-4 inches below knee? If you do it's about
the length of your scar. If not I can't help. What I would say is mind your scar
if and when the summer comes. I found it necessary to cover with thick
newspaper etc so I didn't get burnt. It's a lot more sensitive than skin
around it. Obvious really but caught me out . Anne

Hi Anne
Scared yes I have a long dressing from under the knee to over the knee - was changed earlier to due it a bit yucky. I was shocked at the amount of staples! I imagined 10 maybe - haven't counted but looks aroud 30 ish.

The operation area us very tidy (or as the surgeon puts it very neat)!LOL
Didn't think about covering it up in the sun, I shall just wear long gypsy free flowing cotton skirts so they don't stick to the area.

My way of coping with operation procedures is to see the photos!

Hope your knee okay now?
Jane
